An elderly couple was killed Wednesday in a two car crash at an intersection in Vineland. Witnesses to the accident at the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and 8th Street say that one of the cars had been racing with a third car on Chestnut when it crashed into the car carrying the husband and wife. The 77-year-old husband was declared dead at the scene of the accident, while his wife, also 77, died a short time after being rushed away from the scene in an ambulance.
A man from a nearby business heard the crunch of the car accident from the basement of his business. He says he rushed outside and tried to help the elderly couple, who each appeared unconscious when he arrived at the site of the car accident. The shop-owner says that the husband was stuck in the vehicle and all he could do was try to comfort the accident victims until emergency responders could arrive.
The businessman was one of the first people to reach the crash site. He says a third vehicle was stopped near the scene with two females inside.
Law enforcement has the fatal car accident under investigation. A 17-year-old male has been identified as the driver of the SUV that slammed into the elderly couple's vehicle as it entered the intersection. Authorities say that no charges have been filed.
The son of the elderly couple reportedly wants to know what happened in the accident that claimed his parent's lives. He reportedly told the News of Cumberland County that he holds no ill-will against the 17-year-old driver who was involved in the fatal accident, and is asking for prayers for all involved.
