Two people were killed and at least two people suffered personal injury in a four car pile-up on Cedar Bridge Avenue in Lakewood Saturday afternoon. Authorities are still looking into what may have caused the double-fatal New Jersey car accident.

Two young men riding in the same car were killed in the tragedy. One of the men, a 19-year-old from Brick was pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old driver of a Honda involved in the accident, a man from Lakewood, was pronounced dead at Kimball Medical Center, roughly 45 minutes after the accident was reported.

Authorities say the Honda that the two men were riding in veered across the center line into oncoming traffic and struck a Subaru, driven by a 48-year-old resident of Asbury Park. The Honda careened off the first vehicle and then struck a Ford driven by the chief of the Asbury Park Police. A fourth vehicle, driven by a 37-year-old East Brunswick resident, wound up in some roadside trees after the driver swerved to avoid the initial accident.

The Asbury Park police chief was traveling with his wife when the accident occurred. The couple was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune after the crash. Authorities say the chief was treated and released, while his wife was admitted to the hospital for more treatment.

The drivers from Brick and East Brunswick each declined medical treatment after the four-vehicle wreck.

Authorities shut down traffic in the area of Cedar Bridge near South Clover Street for roughly four hours to investigate and clear the car accident scene.
