Vineland car accident claims elderly married couple

An elderly couple was killed Wednesday in a two car crash at an intersection in Vineland. Witnesses to the accident at the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and 8th Street say that one of the cars had been racing with a third car on Chestnut when it crashed into the car carrying the husband and wife. The 77-year-old husband was declared dead at the scene of the accident, while his wife, also 77, died a short time after being rushed away from the scene in an ambulance.

A man from a nearby business heard the crunch of the car accident from the basement of his business. He says he rushed outside and tried to help the elderly couple, who each appeared unconscious when he arrived at the site of the car accident. The shop-owner says that the husband was stuck in the vehicle and all he could do was try to comfort the accident victims until emergency responders could arrive.

Dump truck and bus collide on route 528, killing one, injuring 17

A motor vehicle accident between a dump truck and a school bus has claimed the life of a New Jersey girl and left her two sisters critically injured. The motor vehicle accident victims are triplets and the daughters of a New Jersey State Police trooper. The triplets were among 17 victims of the tragic bus and truck accident.

The bus and truck accident was reported shortly after 8:00 a.m. Thursday. Law enforcement says that 25 students were aboard the school bus when the bus crossed into intersection along Route 528 at Old York Road. The intersection has a red blinking light on Old York road. A dump truck, traveling on Route 528 drove through an amber blinking light at that intersection and slammed into the school bus on the driver's side of the bus, near the rear of the bus.

Two killed and two injured in Lakewood NJ car accident

Two people were killed and at least two people suffered personal injury in a four car pile-up on Cedar Bridge Avenue in Lakewood Saturday afternoon. Authorities are still looking into what may have caused the double-fatal New Jersey car accident.

Two young men riding in the same car were killed in the tragedy. One of the men, a 19-year-old from Brick was pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old driver of a Honda involved in the accident, a man from Lakewood, was pronounced dead at Kimball Medical Center, roughly 45 minutes after the accident was reported.

Tassimo and Bosch brewers recalled due to serious burn risks

A holiday gift between a man and his wife in December, 2010, turned into a nightmare for the entire family just three days later. The gift was a $100 coffee maker. On Dec. 28, a young Midwestern girl went into the family's kitchen, while her grandmother was using the coffee machine to make some morning brew. The machine made a strange noise, and then exploded, spewing hot liquid and hot coffee grounds across the room.

The hot substances from the defective product landed on the young girl's face, hands and neck, inflicting second degree burns. Her mother was just pulling into the driveway when the Tassimo coffee maker exploded. She could hear her daughter screaming in pain. Since that time, the young girl has undergone skin grafts, experienced nightmares and suffered pain from the accident. She still has health issues related to the coffee maker accident.

Jury finds med mal negligence in death of Vineland man after ER visit

In 2004, a Vineland man experienced chest pains and shortness of breath and decided to get checked out at the South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center emergency room. Apparently the ER doctor diagnosed that the man had a virus and sent him home without any prescription for the alleged medical condition. Early the next morning, the man collapsed. His girlfriend called 911, but the man never made it to the hospital.

A Cumberland County jury returned a seven figure verdict late last month in favor of the man's estate in a medical malpractice--wrongful death lawsuit. The trial took three weeks of evidence before the jury. The man's estate claimed that the doctor was negligent in failing to diagnose and treat the true medical condition that the man was experiencing when he was in the emergency room the night before he died.

Bicycle helmets recalled due to head injury risk

In the last post, this blog discussed a recent New Jersey Supreme Court ruling involving a bicycle accident. The accident victim suffered head injuries, despite wearing a protective bicycle helmet. Helmets can only provide a certain amount of protection in any bicycle accident, but thankfully New Jersey residents are increasingly relying on helmets for protection, because helmets provide proven benefits.

The issue in the last post involved whether Essex County should be held liable for a dangerous condition, and not the helmet the accident victim was wearing when her bike toppled, causing severe injury. New Jersey product liability lawyers know that a defectively made helmet can create an expected hazard, even in an accident more minor than that involved in yesterday's post.

Recently, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the manufacturer of protective helmets designed for children announced the recall of more than 30,000 bicycle helmets, due to safety concerns.

New Jersey Supreme Court: County not liable for bicyclist's death

In 2001, a female bicyclist suffered a massive head injury after she was riding on the shoulder of Parsonage Hill Road in Millburn and hit a deep dip in the road, causing her to fall of her bicycle. Despite wearing a helmet, she suffered severe head trauma and died 26 days later.

The victim's husband filed a premises liability lawsuit against Essex County, who is responsible for repairing the road. Last week, the New Jersey Supreme Court dismissed the victim's husband's lawsuit against Essex County, stating that his case "failed to conclusively demonstrate the county knew about the 1 1/2-inch-deep, 2-foot-wide depression," as reported by The Star Ledger.

Mahwah head-on car accident injures two, one critically

Two people were injured Monday morning in a two vehicle collision, according to Mahwah police. Authorities say a 22-year-old New City man, driving a Honda, crashed into an SUV driven by a 43-year-old Oakland, New Jersey, woman. Both drivers required treatment at area hospitals, however, Mahwah police say that the male driver suffered more serious injuries in the head-on crash.

The Route 202 car accident was first reported shortly after 9:00 a.m. Monday. The man from New City was pulled from the wreckage. Law enforcement says the man had no pulse. Emergency responders used a defibrillator at the scene and were able to find a pulse.

Man killed in Piscataway motorcycle accident

Authorities say that a 49-year-old man from Edison was fatally injured in a two vehicle accident early Wednesday morning in Piscataway. The motor vehicle accident occurred shortly before 7:00 a.m. at the intersection between South Washington and Centennial Avenues. Police believe a 59-year-old Dunellen man was driving a 2001 Buick on South Washington, before attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Centennial.

The accident victim was riding a Harley Davidson, which collided with the Buick. Police believe the driver of the Buick turned in front of the path of the Harley, which was travelling straight through the intersection. Authorities say that both drivers had a green light at the intersection where the fatal motorcycle accident occurred. Authorities say the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Young mother killed in East Orange bus and pedestrian accident

An East Orange woman lost her life while walking with her young son Monday morning. The 21-year-old woman was struck by a Coach USA bus near an intersection in East Orange around 7:00 a.m. Monday. The young mother was walking with her 3-year-old son at the time of the pedestrian accident. Authorities say that the young boy was not injured in the crash; however, authorities transported the boy to the hospital after the accident.

The fatal pedestrian accident was reported near the intersection of Main and South Harrison streets, according to Essex County prosecutors. The bus driver stopped at the scene and no charges have been filed. Details surrounding the incident remain sketchy. Authorities still have the fatal accident under investigation.
